How to package items you sell online

Packaging For Online Businesses and Sellers

At http://www.countypack.co.uk we know that packaging has a range of applications which is why the packaging industry continues to thrive. With the birth of the internet more people are shopping online and many businesses are operating from within the comforts of their own home. Some people are even selling online as a past time to make an additional income.

Many of these home businesses or sellers will not be able to have the luxury of operating packaging machines and equipment for their products. Therefore many of them will have to think outside of the box when it comes to how they package their items.

The essential decisions when it comes to packaging your online products to customers is what materials you are going to use. With a large range of packaging materials from plastic, cardboard, and wrapping it can be a tricky decision.

Tips For Packaging

Firstly think of the shipping cost for your items. Postage prices are often determined by size and weight. To maximise profit and make it as cheap as possible for your customers you should choose packaging materials that are small, compact and lightweight.

Secondly think of what additional packaging your items may require. (This will also need to be added to the final weight and size for postage.) For instance if your items are fragile they may need to be cushioned or protected. You have lots of options here. You could use specialised packaging such as bubble wrap, foam, polystyrene etc or you could use shredded paper and newspaper. It depends on how you wish to best package the item and what you think will be the most suitable protection for what you are posting.

Thirdly being a home business or seller means you can be a little more creative with your packaging and think outside the box. You can use a variety of household items to package your products. One particular idea is to use coffee bags. As long as you can still efficiently package your items then why not see what you can use that you have to hand.

In addition you should consider how you can recycle your packaging materials which will be
much better for the environment. If you have yourself recently purchased any items that included packaging you could choose to reuse some of this to package your own products.

Finally when you are considering your packaging ensure that it has available space to be
clearly labelled. Allowing for adequate labelling is important so that your item will be received at the correct destination and not cause confusion to the handler or courier.
